More than just a label, it’s our commitment to you
For over ten years, Decathlon has utilized RFID technology to make sports more accessible. Discover how this small chip saves you time, ensures your safety, and protects the playgrounds we cherish.
Ready to play!

More time for sport, Less time at checkout
Awesome cashing experience !
Thanks to the RFID chip, there’s no need to scan items one by one. Simply place your items in the bin, and they appear instantly on the screen. It’s fast, seamless, and gives you more time for what matters most: playing.

Your product always available
Accurate stock !
By making inventory checks 10 times faster, RFID helps our teammates ensure your favorite gear is always in stock. It also allows us to produce only what is needed, reducing waste and our environmental footprint.

Teammates are more available for you
More time to advise you
Thanks to RAIN RFID, the daily tasks of teammates are easier. For example, it makes inventories simpler and more frequent. This means that our employees are more present to advise YOU.

Your safety is our priority
Surgical recall
In the rare event of a product recall, RFID allows us to identify and locate defective items with surgical precision. If you have a Decathlon account, we can notify you directly and personally to ensure your safety.

Protecting our playground
Reducing our carbon footprint
RAIN RFID plays a major role in the transformation of Decathlon: second life, renting, repair, transparency, ...
Moreover, the entire history of your product will be known, down to the origin of its raw materials. And so, if the chip is still active, we can guarantee the recycling of your items!
Our customer experience must be a unique one. In store, our products are continuously available. The checkout process is faster and easier. Freed from time-consuming tasks, our teammates can concentrate on serving, advising and helping our customers and sports users.
Hervé D'Halluin - Leader RFID & Traceability
The tag has no battery. It emits nothing on its own. It only activates briefly when close to a reader at checkout for example.
The chip only contains a product reference number. It stores no names, no payment info, and no location history.
We conduct independent lab tests every 2 years to ensure our systems remain perfectly safe for everyone.
Innovation that benefits people often starts with the simplest of objects; in our case, a “revolutionary” sticker. Small and rectangular, it has an integrated electronic chip. This label is called an RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) tag. The principle behind this chip is straightforward: it is fed by a special reader so it can communicate and provide its own unique identifier. The tags can be read from up to a metre away, in hundredths of a second and even through boxes.
No. The tag is "passive," meaning it has no battery and emits no waves on its own. It only reacts when placed inches away from a reader. The energy levels are significantly lower than a standard smartphone or Wi-Fi signal. Moreover, we are engaged to verify that the international standards and regulations regarding exposure to electromagnetic waves are strictly respected. For this, every 2 years, Decathlon takes measurements with an independent firm to confirm that our systems are still safe for human health.
Absolutely. The chip contains only a unique product ID (like a digital barcode). It stores no personal data, no names, and no location history. It cannot track you.
Yes. You can deactivate the chip at the store exit upon request, or simply cut the label off (if accessible) once you’re home.
We decided to adopt RAIN RFID technology to uniquely identify our products.
RFID is the only technology available on the market that benefits from a global standard and allows a unique codification to be assigned to each item. Thus, all our products have a serial number recorded in the RFID chip. This is the only information present in the chip and that can be read remotely (several meters), massively and simultaneously.
We master RAIN RFID technology and we are proud to be leaders. We measure all its benefits on a daily basis and the technology continue to play a key role for the future of Decathlon!
