Welcome to the heart of the Decathlon journey! For half a century, our stores have been more than points of sale. They are playgrounds, community hubs, and the place where sporting stories come to life.

From our first aisles in France to our presence today in 54 countries with 1,902 stores, our retail concept has evolved, but our obsession remains the same: making sport and its many benefits accessible to everyone.

50 years of innovation, one constant spirit

Let’s take you backstage to our Retail Lab, the department designing our stores! While our look has changed, we remain deeply faithful to the spirit of our very first store opened 50 years ago: a place of vitality, discovery, and community.

 

 

The "Green Carpet" Era (1976-2000): If you grew up with us in France, you definitely remember that green carpet. Until the turn of the millennium, it was our signature. It symbolised the playing field: terrain grass enticed shoopers into the store.


The Design Evolution (2000-2020): We moved from "hand-made" chalk signs to sleek, colour-coded universes and architectural "White Arches" to help you find exactly what you need at a glance.


The Modernisation Big Bang: Since 2024, we’ve entered a historic acceleration. With a fresh logo and vibrant identity, we’ve already transformed 400 stores with a more modern and fluid shopping experience. From our inviting 'boutique' atmosphere and expert technical guidance to the convenience of Click & Collect, we’ve designed every detail to make your visit a memorable one! Our goal? Modernising all 1,900 locations by 2029 to offer an unprecedented customer experience.

Global concept, local soul

From Shanghai to Colombia, at the foot of the Alps or in the heart of London, no two Decathlons are identical. 80% of our fittings are designed in-house by our own engineers. This "industrial tailoring" allows us to adapt to local habits while maintaining the same passion for sport.

The Core Concepts

Decathlon Standard: all sports under one roof

This is the flagship you know and love! Spanning anywhere from 2,000 to over 6,000 m², it’s a playground where every single sport comes to life under one roof. You’ll usually find these giants on the outskirts of big cities or in major shopping zones. It’s the all-in-one destination to get inspired and fully geared up, and since it’s our "historical" format, you’ll find it on every single continent across the globe.

 

Decathlon Essential: your local sports hub

Think of this as your friendly neighborhood go-to. At around 1,500 m², we bring you the absolute essentials for about fifteen of the most popular sports. It’s the perfect "simplified" version for mid-sized towns or countryside living where you need high-quality gear right around the corner. You can find them all over Europe and the Americas, but they haven't made the trip to Asia just yet!

 

Decathlon City: Heartbeat of the streets

We’re bringing the vibe right into the city center! These stores ranging from 500 to 1,000 m² are designed for those who don't want to trek to the suburbs for gear. The best part? They adapt to you: you’ll find more Padel gear in Spain and more Cricket kits in India. It’s a curated selection of the sports that actually move your specific city, and you can find them popping up in downtowns all over the world.

 

Decathlon Connect: The smart pit-stop

This is our smallest and fastest format, typically between 100 and 300 m². It’s the ultimate "commuter stop" focused on bikes, scooters, and urban mobility. While it’s the dream for city dwellers looking for a quick outdoor fix or a smooth ride to work, you won’t find this one in Europe just yet. It’s a specialized concept mainly thriving in China and across Asia.

 

Decathlon Seasonal: your holiday Bestie

Vacation mode: activated! These specialized shops (200 to 500 m²) pop up in tourist hotspots to save your trip. If you’re in the Alps, the store transforms into a winter wonderland of skis and parkas; if you’re on the coast, it’s all about surfboards and swimwear. It’s our way of staying right by your side when you’re chasing adventure. For now, this "vacation-saver" format is a special treat exclusive to Europe.

Run by experts, for runners. From high-tech analysis to pro-level gear, we provide the elite environment you need to smash your personal bests and feel the runner's high.Only in France for now.

Decathlon Mountain

Adventure is calling! Step into an immersive mountain escape designed for true explorers, featuring specialised gear that’s as tough and passionate as you are.

 

A place to play

The Decathlon DNA is etched into our aisles. We are NOT a "don't touch" kind of place. We are a "please test, please play" destination.

We love the stories of customers who came here as children to try out scooters or kick a ball in the aisles, and who now bring their own kids to discover their first passion. Our stores are living spaces, designed for fluidity and easy navigation, ensuring you find the right product, from beginner gear to high-performance tech, with a smile.
